Websites
Over the years I've worked on huge portal sites, competition microsites, small scale and large scale company sites. Starting out in the early 2000s using nested tables and basic CSS, through to full on Flash sites, onto "web 2.0" stuff, responsive websites and now more react-based solutions.
HTML email
I've developed numerous email campaigns that are compatible across various email clients and devices, ensuring consistent branding and user experience.
Having started learning HTML using tables in the late 90s and then working with more modern, responsive layouts my skills have meant I have become an expert in HTML email design and development.
While lots of the web has moved on dramatically in the last 25 years, email stubbornly resists embracing modern standards. Mainly due to Outlook using word as it's rendering engine for some unknown reason.
Some recent projects have included full redesign and building of template components for clients like easyJet and Admiral insurance. This meant building reusable, modular components that could be easily adapted for different campaigns and audiences. And ensuring these worked across various email clients and devices.
HTML banners
With the death of Flash in 2015, HTML banners became the standard for online advertising. I've created numerous HTML5 banner campaigns for various clients, focusing on engaging visuals and interactive elements.
Using a combination of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, I've developed banners that are not only visually appealing but also optimized for performance across different devices and screen sizes.
My approach to HTML banner design involves understanding the target audience and crafting messages that resonate, while adhering to brand guidelines and campaign objectives.
Some notable campaigns include work for Microsoft, Sabic and Aramco, where I developed a series of banner campaigns that effectively captured user attention and drove engagement.
Often looked down on as a throwaway element to a campaign, HTML banners require careful planning and execution to maximize their impact and return on investment. They also offer the chance to innovate and experiment with new techniques and technologies.
While I started off handcoding individual banners, I then moved towards using frameworks and tools that streamline the development process and improve maintainability. This started with a node, yarn and gulp based solution and then progressed to a more lightweight and customisable 11ty solution.
Whether it's individual banners or large scale campaigns, I enjoy the challenge of creating effective HTML banners that deliver results for clients and stand out in a crowded digital landscape.
